You may not be convinced about Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, but the final trailer is sure going to try to turn you. It’s a hell of a trailer, and a very good move for the film, because this is one of those efforts that doesn’t have a lot of room to change the number of people who are going to buy tickets beyond simply revealing the title.

First off, our pool is comprised of those who have seen the first, or those we can convince to see it now. More importantly, this is the sort of movie that, for the vast majority of people, probably has you at the title, or isn’t going to get you. The trailers have already given some interesting notes that should lead to the idea that there is a lot more going on with this film than just a sci-fi romp with talking apes, but this one really zooms in on the broader scope involved.

The aim of any trailer is obviously to get people into seats who didn’t already buy their ticket, and if you haven’t already marked your calendar, you should really take a look at this one.

Sure, you’re thinking, “Look, there are only something like 350,000 total apes in the whole world, and even if you give 10 years for them to breed, and humans to die off of a plague… the numbers just don’t add up,” (because that’s what I say) but seriously, let this trailer get its hooks into you.

A GROWING NATION OF GENETICALLY EVOLVED APES LED BY CAESAR IS THREATENED BY A BAND OF HUMAN SURVIVORS OF THE DEVASTATING VIRUS UNLEASHED A DECADE EARLIER.

THEY REACH A FRAGILE PEACE, BUT IT PROVES SHORT-LIVED, AS BOTH SIDES ARE BROUGHT TO THE BRINK OF A WAR THAT WILL DETERMINE WHO WILL EMERGE AS EARTH’S DOMINANT SPECIES.
