Gone Girl managed to give us one of our biggest differences in ratings. It also proved to be a great introduction of our rating styles, for those who don’t want to go back and listen to our show where we explain how we come up with ratings.
As far as the gap between our take on the film, it seemed to come down to an interesting play on what we would each do with the same set of very particular facts. We both thought the same parts of the movie were good, and we more or less both agreed about how stupid the things were that were stupid. We both thought Ben Affleck was impressive, and we both thought his character’s sister (played by Carrie Coon) was spot on. We differed a little on how well we liked Rosamund Pike, but it didn’t make much of a difference.
In the end, it just turned out that being a good movie for an hour, and then a tremendously stupid one for the rest of your time, kills off the good for me, but not so much for Shane. I may be overstating things a bit.
Give a listen, and let us know who you agree with.
We also covered The Equalizer, and weren’t very impressed, though the film was worth the viewing, and The Boxtrolls, which was awfully good.
