There shouldn’t need to be a lot of sell to any new Pixar movie, but Cars 2 suffered a bit of anti-Pixar backlash (which it didn’t deserve), and the Planes movies didn’t quite take over the world in the way that the original Cars did.

Moreover, Pixar is clearly aware of the sequel burnout audiences seem to feel given that they’ve sworn off them… sort of.

The teaser doesn’t leave a lot of doubt that we’re mixing things up here though, and this isn’t going to be a world of cute and fuzzy bunnies anymore. The world is passing Lightning McQueen by, which harkens back to a story we’re familiar with from the first film, and if that weren’t enough to spin a plot, he’s apparently going to take a bit of a tumble.

That has the makings of an interesting story, and as I said, it’s Pixar, which is usually enough on its own. Their track record for getting into emotional content while having a lot of fun is probably better than anyone’s, which means this could bring us back to days when we see our crew of vehicles in every store.
