The Good Place Renewed For Second Season After Twist Season Finale

Critics loved The Good Place, and the Michael Schur comedy performed well with audiences, but as the season rolled on, especially after the break, it wasn’t a sure thing to get renewed. Then we saw the season finale, and everyone’s mind exploded.

But, much as you might think throwing in an awesome spin would lock you into another season, you had to wonder if there was really a second, post-reveal season to be had. Sure, it teases that there’s more to come, but… well, what the hell happens now? See what I did there?

Well, put away your fears, the show is coming back, and I suspect the renewal is a truly brilliant move, because who isn’t going to tune in next season?

Jennifer Salke, President of NBC Entertainment, announced a full-season order for next year saying,  “Mike Schur has always had one of the most fertile and imaginative minds in comedy, but what he brought us with the first season of ‘The Good Place’ was just extraordinary.”

Not only did the twist make you relive the entire season in your mind, but it actually checked out, and while you probably didn’t guess exactly what was going on, you probably did have some suspicions that something was even more screwy than it seemed. Who didn’t wonder how Tahani ended up there and/or if she wasn’t also a secret mistake?

At any rate, the whimsical show is coming back, and few shows get the chance at a second season that opens up the world so much. It’s a whole new show.
