This week we took on The Dark Knight Rises, and it was an interesting conversation. As usual, one of us sounded rather negative, and one of us sounded very positive, which led to similar ratings.
Odd as it may sound, given that we expanded to 90 minutes, we didn’t talk about a wide array of points the film offered. I was stuck on not loving Bane, and the fact that the film seemed a bit heavy-handed in its effort to shove the talking points it wanted to make into a Batman suit, and Shane offered his counters.
We spent most of our time focusing on how the story was delivered, whether or not Bane made a lot of sense in the end, how annoying it is for Bane to (sort of) “be” Bane in name only, and whether or not the League of Shadows offered us anything in this film.
Whatever negatives the film might have, it’s certainly a wonderful ride, and one that the vast majority of people are probably going to love. It didn’t work for me for a number of reasons, but they aren’t reasons that ultimately take away from the overall effort.
We’d like to take a quick moment to thank our listeners. You’re clearly sharing our show and getting friends to tune in, and we really appreciate it. Our numbers the last three weeks have been surprisingly (to us) phenomenal, and sharing the love helps us to keep going, and makes it possible for us to explore some other cool avenues that will make the show even better. Stay tuned for those, because we’ve got great stuff in the works.
Next week – We’re going to take a break from actual movie review, which we haven’t done in a while, and that’s largely thanks to The Watch being the only thing in wide release. We’re going to be looking back at a few titles from the last couple of months to see if we missed anything we thought might be important, and we’re going to look ahead at what’s coming up as fall approaches. It’s going to be a good show.
