RU? Instant Reaction Review Podcast Ep. 65 – Pacific Rim Review

Our Pacific Rim review saw us slightly torn in various ways, oddly, especially when it came to the goofy scientists, which I sort of loved.

All the fan status we could manage didn’t overcome the wild, ultimately misguided bit of crazy we ended watching… well, unless you think 3.5 stars means it did, and then it did for Shane. Love Charlie Hunnam. Love Idris Elba. Certainly fans of Guillermo del Toro. Didn’t matter for me.

For me, this is one of those huge “if only” films, and if we could have just focused more on getting the pieces better in line with a modern film – not having ridiculous, High School confrontations, delivering more character to all the ones we hint at, etc. – as opposed to just trying to create the perfect “yep, that’s a Godzilla movie update,” this could have been fantastic.

On the other hand, as I said, it worked well enough for Shane, and if you can get behind that, this is probably a lot of fun.
