How to Train Your Dragon was really a surprise to me, mainly due to what I consider a failure of marketing. It just didn’t sell me the depth that actually existed, nor did the trailers and other promos convince me that it was going to be as much fun as it was.

Well, the sequel is fast approaching, and the trailer does a much better job. Unfamiliar as I am with the books, I get the impression that we manage a fair amount of adventure here, and now that I know what happened in the first, this trailer has me roped in. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that I believe in the abilities of the people behind the screen, now that I’ve seen the first one, but still…

If we have any hope that the sequel can fill the very big shoes of the original, this is a decent trailer to show off those possibilities.

At the opening, I admit that it makes me wonder if we don’t get too lost in the variety, and pet-like nature, of our dragons as we saunter along in the aftermath of the first film, but once we get into new territory, things pick up nicely. That naturally makes me wonder if the film is going to have the right balance, and the kind of pace that doesn’t leave you hoping to get to the action.

Take a look, and let me know what you think. Did you and/or the kids like the original as much as I did? Are we excited for this one?
