Shut In is a film that was a bit confusing, because the official synopsis doesn’t make a lot of sense. The film has released a trailer now, and it didn’t show up a moment too soon.

The whole plot about a child psychologist (Naomi Watts) who lives an isolated existence, and/but has to rescue a young boy before he disappears forever makes a lot more sense once you throw in actual spookables.

The trailer actually lays things out rather well, and gives you some quality moments with Jacob Tremblay, the boy who may or may not disappear forever. Here’s a child actor who is perhaps a good candidate for some preventative therapy considering the roles he’s been involved in thus far… and the look he’s able to give in the trailer.

It’s almost as if the film is trying to pull in a heavier angle of Insomnia than you might expect. Not because they keep referring to being sleep deprived, but because of the way things often have something of a haze about them. When a film really only has one character, you’ve got to run through some complexities to keep things interesting, and this one apparently plays with tone and scene construction to heighten the tension.

Of course, if you need something more than the first few moments of the trailer to knock you off balance, you might be made of stronger stuff than your average movie-goer.

Take a look above, and let us know what you think about this one.

Shut In hits November 11th.
