Those outside the UK don’t have much chance of knowing Director Ben Wheatley, but he’s been delivering odd and quirky wonder for quite a while now. You usually find him with writer (and/or co-writer) Amy Jump, and such is the case with Free Fire, a movie that is, more or less, a real-time gun deal gone wrong in a warehouse… at least, that’s what the trailer suggests.
That’s already a fantastic idea, but the cast looks to make this the most fun you’ve had in a theater in a long time. Brie Larson, Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy and more pull you right into this bizarre situation, and either the trailer is an absolute lie, or this one will be hilarious.
You’re best shot to know Wheatley’s work is 2015’s High-Rise, which starred Tom Hiddleston, Luke Evans, Jeremy Irons, Elisabeth Moss, Sienna Miller, and James Purefoy, and showed off Wheatley’s ability to work an ensemble cast.
