The Tomorrow War – First Look Images For Curious Sci-Fi Effort

One of the most bizarre films, according to the synopsis, headed your way is also coming to you by way of a somewhat surprising team, including Director Chris McKay (Robot Chicken, The Lego Batman Movie) and star Chris Pratt. Now, I’m a fan of Chris Pratt, on screen, even in things most people don’t think that much of, like Passengers, but this one sounds confusing at best.

In The Tomorrow War, according to the official story, the world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from 2051 to deliver an urgent message. Apparently, in the future, the Earth is losing a war to an alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight. Among those recruited is high school teacher and family man Dan Forester (Chris Pratt). Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet.

The images below gives us a glimpse of Pratt decked out for combat, and a quick look at the ravages of war in the future but they don’t give away much in the way of details when it comes to what any of this might really mean as a plot. I’m not sure how they could, although it would be interesting to at least get a look at more of the future.

You could have a field day with this synopsis and trying to figure out how it could make any sense, but frankly it leads one to imagine that something screwy must be going on. Has no one in the future ever heard of time travel before suddenly inventing it? There must be a million ways to win any war against aliens if time travel is on the table. What the hell do they want a teacher for? How does roping his dad into things make anything a better story?

Considering that it seems unlikely that either Chris Pratt or Chris McKay are signing on for something that seems nonsensical, the mind reels at the possibilities of making this plot come together without the story being some kind of Twilight Zone-esque con.

The film is written by Zach Dean and also stars Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge, Jasmine Mathews, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and Keith Powers

Check out the images and see what you can make of this one… and be ready for other teases and/or trailers which ought to be headed your way pretty soon.
