RU? Instant Reaction Review Podcast Ep. 130 – Unbroken & Boyhood Review

It was a sadly boring week when it comes to the actual movie reviews, but at least someone wrote in asking us to talk about what we were looking forward to in 2015.

Unbroken, though it had its moments, was an oddly boring effort. If not for the cast, this would have been horrible, and it was a truly odd experience watching all the life sucked out of this story.

Boyhood didn’t impress us either, and no matter how much people are impressed with the gimmick, we ultimately had to basically dare anyone to say that anything interesting happened apart from the gimmick. We’d seen it all before, better, and with more interesting stories driving things. It’s not a bad trick, but nothing comes of it, and there’s no reason you couldn’t have made the film “normally,” using different actors and make-up, and everyone would have torn that movie apart.

As I said, we at least got to go over some of the film we’re looking forward to, and that was fun.
