Inside Amy Schumer is the kind of show that really needs a chance to grow, and needs to give its star the ability to develop beyond her own initial premise. That fact was already clear once we were about halfway through the second season, and it’s crystal clear as we move through the first episodes of the third.
Amy Schumer is hilarious, but she’s never better than when you can tell that she’s completely comfortable… or, completely uncomfortable. Both demand that a concept has not only matured, but that the situation that is the show in general has laid its own foundation. Sure, the show was funny from the beginning, but we’re at a different level now.
Nothing is safe from Schumer’s gaze, and she has an amazing group of guests who take part in the fun. As usual, where the show distances itself from similar efforts at comedy is in Schumer’s ability to take things one step further, in some cases perhaps a half-step further than is comedically perfect, and to some degree in the fact that she’s a woman doing it.

She’s pushing the boundaries of good taste, and good sense, hence, when she meets her idols – Tina Fey, Julia Louise-Dreyfuss, and Patricia Arquette – they refer to her as, “the woman who always talks about her pussy.” By way of that open, perhaps bizarre, approach to… well, approaching topics, we get things like this promo –
We also often get a strange mix of mockery, blurring the lines of exactly what we’re making fun of, how we’re doing it, and who exactly finds themselves in the crosshairs.
That is perhaps never more true than in the following music video that kicks off the third season, and has already been making the rounds on the internet.

Inside Amy Schumer – Milk Milk Lemonade Music Video
Frankly, it becomes a little tricky to figure out just what is going on here, especially considering the people who show up to take part. Try to figure out the conversation that led to Amber Rose showing up to be on the show. If it makes sense to you, let me know.
It’s the (at least) dichotomy of purpose in everything that has always been the show’s biggest sell, but now it reaches a place that leaves you laughing and scratching your head most of the time.

Another good example is the Porn POV segment that has Amber Tamblyn in a guest spot as Amy shows her some “new porn,” that specifically shows the woman’s point-of-view. It’s hard to say exactly what we’re making fun of, because there are too many things, but it’s funny. It has also made us wonder what the actual point of view of a woman would be like while she films for something like this Nu Bay Porn site or similar variations available online.
Sometimes, what’s funny about a sketch, or even her man-on-the-street interviews, is just being ballsy enough to take a shot at the idea.
You don’t actually need to catch up on this one before the new season starts, but you might as well. This should be on your don’t miss list.
